Families Reading Together Program

I will be sending home information on the Kinkeade ECS Families Reading Together Program Wednesday. This is a great way to spend quality time with your child while encouraging reading, building vocabulary, listening comprehension, and other important literacy skills.

This program will run from February 1st - April 30th. All you need to do is write the title and author of each of the books you read to your child. We ask that you only list a book one time (even if you read it over and over again). We want the children to be exposed to as many different books as possible. When you have completed the two reading logs sent home return them to school. Once they are received and entered into the system your child will receive a FREE book to add to your home library. The book will have a nameplate with your child's name in it.

This year I am excited to announce we received a $2,000 grant from Target. This money is being used to purchase the books that will be given to the children when their reading logs are returned. Thank you Target for your partnership with the Families Reading Together Program.

2012 Youth Media Awards

Yesterday was such an exciting day in the world of libraries and books. The announcement of the ALA Youth Media Awards was held yesterday morning at the American Library Association Midwinter Conference in Dallas. This is like the Academy Awards for the library world! It was thrilling to hear the announcement live and hear the cheering.

I am so very excited to announce of the 25 campus entries for Kinkeade Early Childhood School, 13 of those entries went on to the district level competition and 7 of those entries placed either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place! 2012 Texas 2x2 Reading List

I had the pleasure of announcing the 2012 Texas 2x2 Reading List yesterday. I am so excited about this new list of great books to share with children from age 2 to grade 2. I hope you enjoy sharing all of these titles with your child or children. You can find the entire list of books at the official website. In the next few months websites and activities for all of the books will also be posted on this site. You will be able to check out the book and then do some of the great activities at home with your child. I hope it creates a wonderful bonding experience between you and your child.

Excited About Media Fair

I am so excited to say Kinkeade had 25 entries in the Technology Media Fair. I think the students and teachers did a wonderful job on their submissions. We will all have to wait until January 26th to see how the entries did in the district judging. Be sure to come out to the Jack E. Singley Academy for the Open House.
