Technology Media Fair = Tecnología de los medios de comunicación Feria

We had a great turn out of Media Fair entries this year. I am pleased to announce there were 25 campus entries. The district level competition deadline was yesterday and 13 of our entries made it to the district level. Everyone is invited to attend the Irving ISD Media Fair on Thursday, January 26th from 6:00 - 7:30 at the Jack E. Singley Academy to see how Kinkeade students placed on their projects. Good Luck everyone.

Hemos tenido un gran cambio de las entradas los medios de comunicación la Feria de este año. Me complace anunciar que había 25entradas del campus. El nivel de distrito fecha límite del concurso fue ayer y 13 de nuestros registros se hizo a nivel de distrito. Todos están invitados a asistir al distrito escolar de Irving Fair Media en Jueves, 26 de enero de 6:00 - 7:30 en el Jack E. Singley Academy para ver cómo los estudiantes Kinkeade puesto en sus proyectos. Buena suerte a todos.

Return of the Librarian = Retorno de la Biblioteca

I am so excited to announce I am back at the Kinkeade Library. I had a long recovery, but I am fine now and so please to be back with all of my friends.

The children continued to learn nursery rhymes while I was away. To date we have learned "Jack & Jill", "Jack Be Nimble", "Little Miss Muffet", and "Baa Baa Black Sheep".

During the next two weeks we will have special holiday story times and the teachers will be able to sign up for a special computer treat for their classes with my friend, Mrs. Allen. I hope everyone enjoys these little extras.

The Polar Express

We will be celebrating The Polar Express (written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg) the week of December 19th. On Monday, the 19th, I will be sharing the story with all of the children. They will also be able to experience the story by going on a train ride (with parent permission). Wednesday we will be wearing our pajamas to school. It will be great fun for everyone.


Estoy tan emocionado de anunciar que estoy de vuelta en la Biblioteca Kinkeade. Tuve una larga recuperación, pero estoy bien ahora, y así que por favor volver a estar con todos mis amigos.

While I am Away

Kinkeade Students, Parents, and Teachers,

I am sorry to say I will be away from the library for a while. I will be going into the hospital next Tuesday, October 18th for surgery. At this time I am not sure how long I will be unable to return to the library.

I want you to know the library will be in excellent hands. I have a wonderful substitute coming in to help everyone and maintain library services while I am away. The library will continue to be open for extended hours on Thursday evenings. My wonderful mother will be there to help you locate great books to read with your children. So please do not stop coming to the library to share this special time with your family. The library will be open and the books are ready for you to come and choose them to go home with you.

Our children grow so very quickly and this special bonding time will be gone before you know it. I don't want you to miss a second of it, so please continue to come up and check out those books!

Rockin' in Our School Shoes

Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes

I received a copy of Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes written by Eric Litwin and illustrated by James Dean in the mail this week. I was so excited when I opened up the book to read it. I knew it would be the perfect book to share with my friends during story time. I downloaded the song. (If you click on this link you can download both of Pete's songs and find some great activities that include Pete.)


During story time we listened to the story / song as the author read / sang along with a group of children. We looked at the picture drawn by James Dean as the story / song went along. We had so much fun rocking in OUR school shoes. So many of the students could not control their excitement as they bopped to the song and sang along.  Here is a short video clip of Pete

Durante el tiempo de la historia hemos escuchado la canción del cuento / como el autor de lectura / cantó junto a un grupo de niños. Nos fijamos en la imagen dibujada por James Dean en la historia / canción sobre la marcha. Tuvimos rock muy divertido en el lugar de nuestra escuela. Así que muchos de los estudiantesno podían controlar su emoción a medida que bopped a la canción y la cantaron. Aquí está un breve vídeo de Pete.

I found a great new book to share with the students for the first of school this year.

As summer comes to an end, Tortoise begins to wonder "What If...?". He starts to worry what if he falls, it he doesn't like lunch, or if the kids are mean. These are very understandable worries for anyone on the first day of school. The surprise twist at the end of the book will have everyone laughing.


I will be sharing my personal copy of this book with the children at the beginning of the school year, but I have placed this book on my order list. If you would like to read it while in the library, let me know and I will let you look at my copy. However, if you would like to check it out you will have to wait a little while. I will post information about new books here as soon as they start to come in and are ready to be checked out.


During storytime this year we will also be working on nursery rhymes. The first rhyme we will learn is "Jack and Jill". I have found a wonderful site with the nursery rhymes we will be learning this year. We are working on the sequencing of the nursery rhymes using the SMART Board in the library. You can help your child by going to the site, allowing them to listen to the rhyme spoken, sung, and then your child can put the rhyme in the correct order.

Library Orientation = Orientación de la biblioteca

I am so excited to have classes coming into the library on the second day of school. Five classes came in to the library for a short story time, orientation, book care, and check out all in one.


We read the book It's Library Day! written and illustrated by Janet Morgan Stoeke. We talked about how excited the children were to be at the library and checking out books.

We then read the poem by Robyn Squire entitled "How to Care for Library Books". We talked about taking care of the library books not only at school but also at home. Before the children walked around the library on their book hunt we discussed the following :

1. Turn the pages carefully - from the top right corner.
2. Never eat or drink while reading a library book.
3. Never draw, write, or color in a library book.
4. Never step on , sit on, or hit with a library book.
5. Keep library books in your backpack when not reading it at home.

After a short classroom observation period the children will be bringing their library books home to read each night. A letter of introduction will be sent home by the classroom teacher letting you know your child visited the library for story time and to check out a book. It is the same information I am posting here in case you did not receive the letter.


Please help your child as they learn about the responsibility of taking care of library books. I ask that you follow these simple guidelines:

1. Have a special place for library books so they will not get lost or damaged.
2. Read the book or books with your child.
3. Return the book to school safely.

If you find damage (writing, torn pages, etc.), please write a note and place it in your child's folder along with the book. I have special "magic" tape to repair the books. Please DO NOT repair any damaged books at home.

Classroom teachers are expected to bring their students to the library every day to check out library books. Classes will come to the library twice a six weeks for story time and the teachers can sign up for special story times or lessons any time.


Estoy muy emocionado de tener clases de entrar en la biblioteca en el segundo día de escuela. Cinco clases de vino a la biblioteca por un tiempo breve historia, la orientación, la atención de libro, y ver todo en uno.

Por favor, ayudar a su hijo a medida que aprenden acerca de laresponsabilidad de cuidar de los libros de la biblioteca. Le pido que sigaestas sencillas instrucciones:

1. Tienen un lugar especial para los libros de la biblioteca para que no se pierde o se daña.
2. Leer el libro o libros con su hijo.
3. Devolver el libro a la escuela con seguridad.

Si encuentra daños (por escrito, páginas rotas, etc), por favor escriba una nota y colocarlo en la carpeta de su hijo junto con el libro. Tengo especial "magia" de la cinta para reparar los libros. Por favor, NO reparar los libros dañados en su casa.
